Let's revive the push for the 25th Amendment to abolish the electoral college. In 1969 the House voted 338 to 70 to pass the resolution, but then a Senate filibuster blocked it, and a cloture vote was 64 to 36. The southern states of course opposed it.

A politician should be nothing more than an accomplished debater. The people should vote on the issue and the rep tasked to argue the prevailing point on behalf of their constituents, no matter their personal view. Why should one person make the decisions for so many? #1person1vote
