Hike 7 for my 2026 #52hikechallenge 🥾 started with a quick 15 m climb up the DNA Tower in Kings Park and Botanic Garden and then a haphazard amble along sandy tracks until I ended up in the Banksia Garden. 4.64 km.
Hike 20 in my #52hikechallenge was the very swampy Lightning Swamp Bushland in Perth, Australia. There is 4.7 km of singletrack (some sandy) to follow to the sound of frog and bird choruses 🎶 I was too late for the king spider orchids that I’ve seen here in other years.
Hike #18 of my #52HikeChallenge this year was the 7.7 km Whistlepipe Gully and Lesmurdie Falls loop track in the Perth Hills (Australia)! Plenty of waterfalls, wildflowers and views of the Perth skyline, as well as nectar eating scarab beetles, birds galore and kangaroos 🦘!
Hike 17 of my #52hikechallenge was the 7.2 km Ellis Brook Loop Trail which included views from below and atop 60 Feet Falls. Plenty of wildflowers, including a bird orchid! And views of the Perth skyline. A mixture of singletrack and fire trails, with some loose rock.
Hike 16 of my #52hikechallenge was a 5km circuit of Talbot Road Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Perth. An easy hike with lots of wildflowers, trees and three bobtail lizards!
Hike 15 of my #52hikechallenge was the Christmas Rock Walking Track in Wongan Hills, Western Australia- 3.37 km with fields of everlasting daisies, orchids, mossy rocks, streams and trees!
Hike 11 of my #52hikechallenge was the Eagle 🦅 View Trail in John Forrest National Park (Western Australia)! 18.2km of waterfalls, wildflowers, boulders and trees 🌳
Saw 20 rabbits and a pair of beautiful deer on my hike at Five Rivers this morning. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April, I didn't think I was going to reach my #52hikechallenge goal this year. But I'm back on track and I've already done 41 hikes this year. I can do it.
Hikes 25 & 26 complete!
Knocked out Pleasantville Loop on Saturday, then treated myself to some ice cream at Prigel Farm Creamery. Wrapped up the weekend with a great hike at Northwest Branch with Outdoor Afro DMV — solid workout and even better company.

Getting in the miles this weekend with hikes 23 & 24 in the books! 💪🏾 Today’s adventure with OutdoorAfro DMV pushed my limits, but I showed up and conquered that trail. Maryland keeps delivering — so many gems to explore!

Hike 20/52
Rain chased everyone else away—my first solo hike!
Just me, the trees, and an impromptu forest concert 🎶 (I sang all the songs).
When no one else shows up, show up for yourself.

Hike 19/52 — Linked up with TheHikeCrew for some good vibes and forest bathing at the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail. Trees were talking, spirits were lifted, and miles were earned. Nature really gets me.

Hike 8 on my #52hikechallenge was the relatively easy but spectacular Castle Rock Granite Sky Walk in the Porongurup National Park, Western Australia. It took us 1.5 hours to hike 3 km. But that included lots of waiting as it was busy.
Starting the long weekend with hike 18/52 at Northwest Branch—sunshine, fresh air, and that perfect spring energy. Wrapped it up wandering through the blooms at Brookside Botanical Gardens. Everything’s in full bloom!

Hike 17/52: Sweathouse Branch & Wildlands Loop. Vibing to old school Sunday morning jams with a little gospel in the mix. Soul fed, trail tread. #52HikeChallenge #SundayVibes #HikeLife
Hike 16/52 with my mini feet beside me.
Red Run Stream, close to home, wrapped us in morning calm.
In the whirlwind of life, choose joy—again and again.

Hike 15/52 was a chance to show our Japanese exchange student the beauty of Maryland’s parks. Patapsco Valley State Park did not disappoint! #52HikeChallenge #PatapscoValley
Swapped city streets for swamp views at Everglades NP! Hike 14/52 was an easy Shark Valley stroll—gators 🐊 were keeping an eye on me. Wrapped it up with museum visit 5/12 at the Museum of the Everglades in Everglades City. History + nature = a solid day! #52HikeChallenge #EvergladesAdventures

Hike 12/52 at Patapsco Park. Five miles of fresh air and trail time. Spring is in the air, and the woods are waking up. #52HikeChallenge #PatapscoValley #SpringVibes
A group of snowshoes and a small dog with a red jacket cross a large expanse of snow with a forest in the background.
A group of snowshoers (and a dog!) seen today on hike 9 of my #52hikechallenge - a 2.9k snowshoe. Another beautiful day to get outside!
Today is National Flag Day in Canada and I think I spent it in a fitting way - skating on an outdoor trail on top of Blue Mountain 🇨🇦 I haven’t been skating in 2 years so I had a big grin a lot of the time. And while this wasn’t hiking, I’m counting it as “hike” 8 of the #52hikechallenge.
Map trace from Gaia GPS.
Letchworth State Park C Cabins to Hogsback and back via Park Road.
2.7 miles. 25F, bright sun. Windy overhead but not on the trail. Crunchy snow.

One of my favorite things to do is hike. Last year I completed the #52hikechallenge I met a lot of great people and saw a lot of beautiful sights!

Icy trail meant wearing my microspikes
Club moss still vibrantly green in midwinter
The Howard Chapel cemetery
A shelf fungus with lichen and moss growing on it.
#hike6 of my #52hikechallenge today was at Patuxent River State Park. It was cold. I did the Free Flowing and Cemetery Trails, stopping by the Howard Chapel African American burial ground. #ParkChat
winter landscape featuring a snow-covered trail leading to a wooden bridge. The bright sun shines in a clear blue sky, casting long shadows on the snow. A frozen body of water stretches into the distance, surrounded by leafless trees. Two people in dark winter clothing are seen walking near the edge of the ice.
Between shopping and sushi got in a short but beautiful 3.3k hike on the Grand Valley Trail. A crisp but sunny day for hike 6 of the #52hikechallenge. ☃️☀️
in 2024, i did over 52 hikes! these were 4 of my favourites 🙌🥾
