12/ Overall, we strongly encourage the #AFCO committee to decide based on principles & values, and not to settle for a (mostly) national system. TNLs are already not the best solution: they are only worth it if they provide a #European constituency of dozens of seats. @DomenecD

Sad to see that, with a record number of federalists in the #AFCO committee, only @PauloRangel_pt (of @EPP, of all parties) recognises that transnational lists are not a federal proposal. We can & *must* do better than a confederal quick fix for our #European elections. #toFedEU

Making European elections truly European Instead of transnational lists leaving our European election in the hands of national parties, we must reform European parties, place them at the heart of European elections, and rewrite our electoral law to bring MEPs closer to citizens, writes Louis Drounau.

MEP @PauloRangel_pt at #AFCO hearing: "I don't understand how people say [TNLs] are a federalist idea: there is no federation with a single constituency. TNLs don't exist in the US, in Switzerland or in Germany. For a federation, this is some kind of constitutional Frankenstein!"

Prof. @JMartonyi at #AFCO hearing: "This must be why no federation in the world uses federation-wide lists for its legislative elections. Of course, there are arguments for and against but, overall, TNLs create more problems than they would resolve."

We now have 4 years before the next #EUelection. This is ample time to reform #Europeanparties and the #EU Electoral Act. Instead of a mere band-aid, let us engage on a bold reform and make this election truly #European. #AFCO, the ball is in your court! Happy hearing! 24/25
