This afternoon at #AMR2026 we're brainstorming "cleaning up antimicrobial waste for people and planet"
#AMR in human & animal waste, spanning water quality, sanitation and hygiene, are uncontrollable once released.

Day 2 at #AMR2026: most/all prescribing should be directed by diagnostic test results, and my colleague Bruce Altevogt pointed out that many AMS guidelines don’t mention diagnostics at all.

He also notes that “AMS is Health Security” - at a population and societal level.

Education about resistance of bacteria to antibiotics needs to be introduced early in scientific education - @senjutisaha.bsky.social believes when you tell kids about bacteria, you tell them about #AMR. By increasing education you establish life long knowledge and reduce AMR burden

Stewardship programs are often underfunded and required to jump through bureaucratic hoops e.g. business case applications and economic justification.
#AMS programs require years to see success but donors want annual reports. This does not equate.

A major takeaway from Day 1 of #AMR2026 is that we need to increase public and investor awareness. I like the suggestion to reframe AMR in accessible language (without acronyms) that conveys the enormity of the problem:
“Deadly infections for which there is no cure” has immediate impact!

Excited for Day 2 #AMR2026. @Fleming_Initiative and @csiro.bsky.social have put together an informative 3day program delivered by panels of international experts from across One Health sectors, stakeholders and policymakers.

Session 2 considers "Insights to Inventory and Stockouts to Solutions" for the antimicrobial supply chain globally.
In order to treat patients adequately, access to essential medicines, and good quality medicine, is necessary.
