The latest edition (October) of BAMS highlights our presentation at #AMS41Radar on the relationship between "Immense" supercell updrafts and tornadoes (attached). Working on a more complete paper to submit soon (or in 2026 or in 2027 🤥). Anyway, check it out!

Last post for the big radar conference in #Toronto - from the 3 co-chairs. We did it! With much support from @ametsoc.org and volunteers. Thanks to co-chair Julian Brimelow, and to @shobenase.bsky.social for leading the charge. It’s been a great experience working with the both of you. #AMS41Radar
Thanks to everyone and everything for #AMS41Radar!

The very last talk of the radar conference in #Toronto is a keynote presentation from Australia’s Peter May on radar nowcasting for wild fires. Advances here will help with fighting increasingly intense fires more safely. #AMS41Radar

Time flies when you're diving deep into radar meteorology!
The always inspiring Dr. Karen Kosiba leads off the afternoon ‘severe storms and mesoscale meteorlogy’ session with her BEST talk - on the Boundary-layer Evolution and Structure of Tornadoes. #AMS41Radar
And my talk on Immense ZDR columns for tornadogenesis prediction is in the next session starting at 4 PM! #AMS41Radar
and the prior long decades of occupation and apartheid. Armed conflict cannot be a blind spot of scientists who purport to care about society. If we do care, we must use our full vocabulary, and make no exceptions for the 'wrong' types of people. Thanks #ams41radar for having the hard convo with me.
I got to present my research on radar access in Palestine (ams.confex.com/ams/41Radar/...) at the #AMS41Radar conference @ams41radar.bsky.social this week, and to be a panelist for Tuesday's Radar4All panel discussion. We must talk about Palestinian radar access in the context of the genocide --
Here we are on Day 4 of the big radar conference in #Toronto and the ‘Big 4’ of Canadian radar are telling us about ‘myths and half-truths in radar meteorology’. Any pet peeves about radar out there?? :-) #AMS41Radar

Day 3 of the radar conference in #Toronto and I’ve been looking forward to this - a panel discussion with radar makers and vendors in the hot seat. The weather radar industry is of course an important part of the broader weather enterprise. #AMS41Radar
Cool work from Roger Wakimoto at @ams41radar.bsky.social looking at photography and linking it to dual pol radar data #AMS41Radar @ametsoc.org
Dr. Roger Wakimoto opens the ‘severe storms and mesoscale meteorology’ session on Day 3 of the radar conference in #Toronto. As usual, Fujita-like attention to detail in his analysis. Not surprising because he worked closely with Dr. Fujita, developer of the original F scale, years ago. #AMS41Radar

We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings 💫
We’ve hit the first ‘radar in operational meteorology’ session, and the man who brought us TITAN storm tracking a long while back (still used in places today) - Michael Dixon from NCAR - is presenting on ideas for a global standard for representing weather radar data files. #AMS41Radar @ #Toronto
The leader of us three radar conference co-chairs, Daniel Michelson of S&T at ECCC, at his poster on the WMO guide on implementing a radar programme that he led. Very busy first poster session! #AMS41Radar @ #Toronto
