PhD student James Fong (aka the Wizard) using #AOSLO to take me on another trip to Oz to see #olo. The key to the door? A classified cone mosaic of my retina.

Most vision scientists would bet that single-cone receptive fields exist in primate fovea, but it was not proven until now.
It took years of sweat and $ to combine #AOSLO and electrophysiology. Congrats to PhD student Keaton Ramsey and his mentor Lawrence Sincich.

Feels great to be back in the bite bar at #UCBerkeley, doing experiments with my postdoc @shangbangluo.bsky.social and PhD student Jason Wong.

Indulging in some actual building today. This will ultimately be a system for splitting broadband, supercontinuum light into 5 separate spectral channels. But for today, it's just lego blocks for scientists!

Just received my deformable mirror from ALPAO! There's no turning back now.

Seems that a small earthquake knocked our #AOSLO #AOOCT system out of alignment. It may be time to engage to the air suspension.... One of the perils of doing research at #ucberkeley.

laser beam excites fluorescence in the eye
EXCITATION
At the heart of our adaptive optics camera is a laser engine. A beam of light scans the retina to image the eye with single cell resolution. @cvsuor.bsky.social

Congratulations to Jason Wong (the guy with the big smile in the middle) for passing his PhD qualifying exam today. The future of #visionscience at @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social is looking good!

Wait. What? no #AOSLO? Feel free to use this one for free.
Seems that 4 monitors is not enough... Jason and Shangbang are choosing which cone on my retina to perform #AOOCT and #AOSLO #optoretinography measurements.
How ๐ is this? My lab members bought me a puzzle for my birthday...and it's an #adaptiveoptics #AOSLO image of my retina! We all worked on it today, but I got to work on the foveolar cones.
