Our newly published report on #APigsTail shows that the UK is failing to enforce its own legal ban on the routine tail docking of pigs despite clear evidence from other European countries that the practice can be avoided without compromising animal welfare.

Despite this, anywhere between 72-85% of pigs in the UK are tail docked.
What this data indicates is deeply concerning: the law being broken at scale, on farms across the country, unseen by the public and largely unchallenged.

It’s that simple: Routine mutilation is illegal.
Under The Mutilations (Permitted Procedures) (England) Regulations 2007 measures must be taken to improve a pig’s environment to prevent tail biting before tail docking is permitted.
