A slide from Alex Mallory's presentation, citing Jill Dolan's *Performance in Utopia*. The quote reads "Utopian performatives are moments of performance in which utopia is 'done' in the intensity of exchange between performers and spectators and among the audience." a second quote reads "it describes the process of feeling together over obvious differences, inspired by an intensely present moment of theatre." The slide also features an image of a black actress seated on milk crates onstage, surrounded by an ensemble of performers in contemporary costuming who appear to be supporting her.

Roblyer presents, arguing for considering "upstream" source of future directors as those working in community and educational theatre that will eventually possibly flow "downstream" to regional and broadway. In the image, Roblyer, a white person wearing a forest green shirt and glasses with an undercut, is in the foreground. In the background, an image of a forest stream with arrows indicating the downstream/upstream ideas described above.

Andrew Roblyer challenges traditional considerations of theatre & the "upstream / downstream" perception of regional, Bway, community, & educational theatre in the US. He highlights the sheer number of directing jobs "upstream" before offering a new model directing training. #ATHE2025 #TheatreSky
