How to reduce video size using AV1 video codec

Found out today that our national broadcaster (#SVT) is streaming their linear TV channels in 1080p50 (vs 720p50 on terrestrial and cable networks) and in AV1!

is it just me or does #blender not have hardware acceleration for #av1? like you can export things in av1 encoding but it's really slow and cpu usage is high

SVT-AV1-PSY's porting efforts are fully complete, and this release also features huge AVIF improvements. Maybe the most exciting release to date by my standards – SVT-AV1 is finally a real perceptual encoder!

- Add "only" this additional option: enable-variance-boost=1

Nobody has explained why, but the running theory is that it's because of H.265 licensing costs. This affects hardware accelerated playback. Kinda glad I've been migrating to #AV1.
