“The pop-up Festival bookstalls, run by The Women’s Bookshop, sold a staggering 12,000 books over the six days. The most popular title was The Book of Guilt, the highly anticipated new novel from Catherine Chidgey.” @catherinechidgey.bsky.social @thwupbooks.bsky.social #AWF25

Kaliane started by writing to some people she found online, one thing led to another, and now we have what sounds like a wonderful book. On stage, Kaliane was 100% delightful, sharing her obsessions and humour.

So, it’s not New York, but I just joined 85,000 people at the Auckland Writers Festival to talk books, and hung out with the likes of Hollinghurst, Adiche, and the legend who actually lived up to it in person: Colm Tóíbín. ❤️ 📚 Huge congratulations to @lfineran.bsky.social and team. #awf25

Really enjoyed the ‘Unfinished business?’ discussion with Colm Toibin, Becky Manawatu and David Nicholls, led by the ever gracious and well prepared Noelle McCarthy. Now we know that sequels are shameful whereas trilogies are cool.😎

Looking across the peach-coloured tiles of Aotea Square, there is a large rectangular yellow plinth featuring some of the events on at the Auckland Writers Festival is. Next to that is a large n-shaped sign with ‘Welcome to the Auckland Writers Festival’ on it.

I’m volunteering at the Auckland Writers Festival, & I’m simultaneously (silently) fan-girling & trying to be welcoming & supportive, while wearing a mask. 😷 #AWF25

The session with Flora Feltham and Tina Makereti was so good - they mainly chatted among themselves, with just the occasional interjection by Jenna Todd. #AWF25

Nice to see moderate interest in books - these are the people swapping from one session to another. #AWF25

A stage with four empty seats is seen from a high up audience view point. Lush ferns sit either side of the stage and there is a podium with “Auckland writers fest” written on an orange and white sign.
A slide reads “trump the next four years, Edward Wong, Philippe Sands, and Anna Fifield. Chaired by Georgina Godwin.”

My first #AWF25 session! And for some reason I have a lot of space to myself (maybe I smell) but yay for social distancing!!

For anyone attending Auckland Writers’ Festival: I’ve got two tickets for ‘Japan’s Trailblazer’ on Sunday (1pm) with Asako Yuzuki in conversation with Paula Morris that we unfortunately can’t go to. I can’t get a refund and I’d hate for them to go to waste — any takers? #AWF25

The Trent Dalton/Michelle Langstone session at Ak Writers fest was absolutely outstanding. If you didn't cry or laugh, you'd really have to go have your heart checked. The enormous fluoro yellow 'slido' screen notification that keeps popping up was horribly intrusive and distracting #AWF25

Listening to Trent Dalton tell stories from his life, with the occasional question from Michelle Langton, was a wonderful start to #AWF25. So much humour, it could have been at the comedy fest, plus emotion, love and optimism. Turning the table, he asks Michelle for her love story.
