When everyone in the lab feels safe to ask “obvious” questions or admit mistakes, real collaboration kicks in. Teams with trust move faster (and have more fun, honestly). Psychological safety isn’t a luxury — it’s the secret sauce. 🧠✨ #AcademicCulture #TalkingPapersThoughtLoop

I asked Claude (my uni's recommended #AI tool) to reflect on bias after noticing ideological patterns. Training data reflects taboos. When we make topics "problematic," AI learns those boundaries too. How do we catch ourselves responding to assumptions? #AcademicCulture #CriticalThinking #HigherEd

Anfang des gedruckten Artikels mit Abstract: Bei Kaffee, Kuchen, Wein und Bier Die Universität als exklusiver Ort der »Persönlichkeitsbildung« in der Autobiografie des Historikers Karl Brandi (1868-1946) Lena Oetzel Abstract The autobiography Aus 77 Jahren (From 77 Years) by the historian Karl Brandi (1868-1946) offers an insight into the power structures and exclusion mechanisms of the German academic system in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As a central figure in German historical scholarship, Brandi describes his academic career, idealizing the phase of precarity as formative for personality development and thus cementing elitist hierarchies. In his depiction of academic life as a family community, he reinforces male-dominated structures that still have an impact today. The autobiography reveals the mechanisms of a system that idealizes precariousness as a necessary test while reproducing unequal access opportunities. Brandi’s influence on the institutionalization of these thought patterns illustrates how deeply anchored hierarchical ideas are in the academic culture. Keywords: Autobiography, Academic Personae, Academic Precarity, German Academic Study of History, University

I intend to fill the gap in expertise and people/evidence driven approaches with @ripplingideas.bsky.social. Perhaps at a future OS meeting I'll be talking about why it's so important to keep those approaches and support the right people.

Rest doesn’t mean you’re falling behind.
The idea that you have to grind 24/7 for a PhD? It’s outdated.
This post is a little reminder to pace yourself — and if you need help finding that balance, I offer coaching too 💬
