—it’s the last weekend of my #academicsummer. I ate a lot of leftover pie and #patched the first hole in the backside of my favorite summer pants. I also completed syllabi and websites for three new courses. Ready for the fall semester with about 14 hours to go!

—more #sketches after photographs and raspberry #slabpie for a special #birthday. (Apparently this is the summer of art and baking—it’s been fun! But it’s coming to an end.)

—this t-shirt has started to develop little holes on the edges of the painted design. I’ve finished the first round of #mending and expect there will be many more! Button craft thread on cotton.
#neverendingmending #reducereuserepair #academicsummer
—spent days #altering a t-shirt that never fit well but has great colors. I recut front and back (adding panels to the lower sides) before #sewing it back together. I still want to bind the neckline and mend all the holes. Button craft thread on cotton.

—this heart-shaped loaf of artisanal #no-knead #bread is sort of a happy accident. I think it had more water than usual and it was not cooperating when I was trying to put it into a very hot Dutch oven.

—two #sketches after photographs that were taken 35 years ago and ten days ago.

—in the spring this tree looks gorgeous and smells terrible. Groundhogs live under the shed, but I didn’t see them today. Only a little green space because we’re in a drought.

—I have no idea what the white birds with black tail feathers are (the brown ones are ducks), but I enjoyed #sketching them!
#inkandwatercolor #urbansketching #pleinair #academicsummer
—yesterday was a hazy day with no clouds in the sky, but the shoreline at #SodusPoint on #LakeOntario is still gorgeous. The outer lighthouse stands at the end of a #narrow pier.

—I did these pages yesterday. First I bit off more than I could chew with the #sketch, then I got very bogged down with adding #collage to address its problems, such that I needed to walk away for a day in order to make sure I was done.

—couldn’t swim today so I did a #sketch instead.

—I last posted about these #corduroy pants for #mendmarch2025. I’m reinforcing the entire #threadbare backside with internal #patches and lots of #runningstitch. Progress is slow but I hope to wear these again in the late fall and winter!
#neverendingmending #reducereuserepair #academicsummer
—another internal #patch on these #oldjeans, primarily using #runningstitch. I especially wanted to highlight three circular spots that I imagine were my daughter’s fingerprints from when she was small.

—earlier today I spent three hours deleting about 800 e-mails from my inbox. I calculate that I need 79 more such sessions (237 hours, or about six full-time workweeks devoted solely to e-mail deletion) to achieve Inbox Zero.

Not supposed to be thinking about teaching till next month #AcademicSummer, but I just broke my rule to immediately create an assignment for Health & the Media using this episode.
This is an upper-division elective that mostly attracts Public Health majors/minors.

—it’s 87•F today so I did this #sketch from my living room. The back of the sofa is against the window, less than ideal! Time to rearrange the furniture. The tree cut down today was aggressively trimmed previously & I never did a good drawing of it.

—I used #Frenchknots to reattach an embellishment to this shirt.

—four small #mends, less visible than usual. Cotton sashiko thread on linen.

WRITING IS HARD.
6 weeks ago, I had an 85% complete draft of my book. I sent to a developmental editor and two friends and now I have...less than that.
But what I DO have is (dare I say it?)...SO MUCH BETTER!!!

—about 25 years ago I bought this bag in #Taipei. I love the fabric but I rarely wear it; it’s been too big for me. I did try it on then, but it hits too low on my body when filled with stuff. Today I finally realized that I could #backstitch a seam to shorten the strap.

Summer at ÚTIA means deep research and global conferences 🌍 Jiří Kukačka heads to Santiago and Tokyo; Ladislav Krištoufek to Rome. Science doesn’t take a holiday 🧠✈️

—yesterday evening I threw together this #brownbutter #peach #cobbler #cake after a happy afternoon of sketching. It was so delicious that even my husband who *does not* eat #desserts had seconds.
#baking #academicsummer
—chocolate zucchini loaf cake baked two days ago just gets more and more delicious. (It’s definitely richer than #zucchinibread.) On a #temmoku-glazed plate that I #handmade 35 years ago in my first #pottery phase. Ah, #baking!

I think I can go to the library, IDK. Am I required to do something productive in my #AcademicSummer today?
Summer’s here = time for new reads.
I’m diving into a mix of classics, new theory, sharp case studies & a historical novel. 🫠📚
What’s on your list? 😄🧐

Writing my 📘 is more fun than updating my cv.
But I really want to be promoted to Full Professor, so I'm spending today doing all the paperwork nonsense needed to put in my package for promotion.
