Born 28th Jan 1929 & best known for his bestselling 1962 instrumental hit Stranger on the Shore, British clarinettist Acker Bilk had a great stage presence. Though he focused more on football in childhood, he was pushed by his parents to learn the piano & later switched to the clarinet. #AckerBilk

"Stranger on the Shore" is a piece for #clarinet written by #AckerBilk for his young daughter and originally named "Jenny" after her. The tune was written on a single scrap of paper by Bilk and handed over to arranger #LeonYoung who crafted the string arrangement.
