If you can catch this on-demand or through other sources (or at a #NoirCity), do it. #ActOfViolence is one of the best, most under-appreciated #FilmNoir entries out there.
Van Heflin gives his best performance and his run through 40's LA at night is an absolute masterpiece.
A nice rewatch of a film noir that deserves to be better known.

FYI. The gun for hire in #ActOfViolence is played by Berry Kroeger who folks will remember as the carnival owner in "Gun Crazy"

#TCMParty If you haven’t gotten enough of your Van Heflin fix in #ActOfViolence head on over to MOVIES! at 8pm and catch him in 3:10 to Yuma
According to wiki (I know, I know) Astor was coming of a streak of so-so roles at the time she made #ActofViolence. Here, she really leans into her experience and struggles (IMO).

"Do you think you can kill a man in cold blood and just forget it? Don't you know what that means? You'll have to live with hate day and night, for the rest of your life. And look what it's done to you already."
Ann (Thaxter) is really appealing to Joe to think it through.

Another noir that goes so much deeper than it ever suggests.
#TCMParty #ActOfViolence
Yup, quite the necktie.
As good as Astor is in "The Maltese Falcon" I think she is even better in #ActOfViolence.
"What is it? Love trouble or money trouble? Listen, Frankie, I've seen 'em all. I've seen all the troubles in the world and they boil down to just those two. You're broke or you're lonely. Or, both."

"Edith, a lot of things happened in the war that you wouldn't understand. Why should you? I don't understand them myself."
Again, the script by Robert L. Richards really hits home.

#ActOfViolence
"You can always find reasons. Even the Nazis had reasons."
Powerful stuff.
In addition to the Private Eye and Femme Fatale tropes, noir was even better at looking at the emotional aftermath of war IMO.

#ActOfViolence
Agreed!
And an "intense and angry" Robert Ryan is ALWAYS good as well.

#ActOfViolence
#ActOfViolence is one of my favorite film noirs. While Robert Ryan and Van Heflin are the stars, in many ways the film pivots off of the three female leads: Janet Leigh, Phyllis Thaxter and Mary Astor. A subject that was covered in Noir City #42.
#TCMParty
Janet Leigh was just 21 in 1948, when #ActOfViolence was released. Van Heflin was 40, but he could easily be playing a younger man. Robert Ryan was about a year younger than Van Heflin, but he seemed older. #TCMParty
VAN, I'D GO ALONG WITH ANYTHING MR. RYAN SUGGESTS. 💙📽️ #noir #actofviolence

As we hurtle our way through #Noirvember, on this 16th day, how about revisiting #ActOfViolence, the emotionally gripping story of war trauma, drenched in shadows and set against the iconic Bunker Hill backdrop?

Did you do the gammy leg acting module? I did. Did you do the squeaky oar acting module? I did. Did you do the farting boat acting module? Yes... You're hired! #TheFilmCrowd #ActOfViolence

#ActOfViolence
#ActOfViolence is a great film, imaginative, smart, mature, serious, and it treats viewers like adults. I hope everyone involved was proud of it no matter how it was received at the time. (I have no idea the reaction to it.) #TCMParty
Into the netherworld with your guide, the amazing Mary Astor. #ActOfViolence #TCMParty
If you're lukewarm on Van Heflin watch #ActOfViolence. #TCMParty #WestCoast
I still sometimes am overwhelmed knowing that actors are acting and a film creates a world that doesn't really exist. #ActOfViolence #TCMParty #WestCoastFeed
One of the things that I love about #ActOfViolence is that the "moral center" (IMO) is provided by the three female leads: Janet Leigh ("Edith"), Phyllis Thaxter ("Ann") and Mary Astor ("Pat"). Each character has a different stake in the conflict, yet they are grounded. Powerful stuff.

#ActOfViolence is such an underrated noir.
"What is it? Love trouble or money trouble? Listen, Frankie, I've seen 'em all. I've seen all the troubles in the world and they boil down to just those two. You're broke or you're lonely. Or, both."
Mary Astor ("Pat") is so great in this.

Janet Leigh spent her entire career being terrorized by angry and maladjusted men. #TCMParty #ActOfViolence
Watch out for Van Heflin running from Robert Ryan!
