The key isn’t eliminating sweetness from life—it’s choosing sources that nourish rather than deplete. Fruits, nuts, and naturally sweet alternatives can satisfy cravings without compromising your health.

In today’s fast-paced world, added sugars sneak into almost everything—from packaged snacks to “healthy” drinks. While they may offer instant gratification, the long-term effects are far from sweet.

The FDA has sent a message with the update to using the word “healthy” on food product labels. The message is stop eating sugar except in very very very small amounts.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s unrealistic to expect Americans to stop eating sweets?

Sugar is a traditional sweetener. Refined sugar probably disrespects the sugar cane cell matrix as much as high fructose corn syrup disrespects the corn cell matrix.
Our gut is used to sugar. It’s been part of our western dietary pattern now since the 17th century. #AddedSugar
Sugary cereal is a source of #AddedSugar. Advertising directed directly to children is a significant driver in adults purchases. Do what it takes to keep the kid quiet.
In my opinion, it’s child abuse. And if I ruled the world #AdvertisingToChildren on any platform would stop. Immediately ⛔️. Now🛑.
Eat less #AddedSugar. No packaged sweets 🍪🍰🍩🍭 #UPF. Fruits are okay #RealFood.
How about home baked cookies? I use raisins to add sweetness along with a moderate amounts of brown sugar. I’m okay with my cookies being unhealthy.
🙀 I’m not so okay with products using #NNS being labeled #healthy.
The FDA threshold for #AddedSugar is set so low, fruit 🍏🥭🍊is the only healthy sweet to have for dessert 🎂🍰. It’s the only #FDAhealthy threshold that I’m okay with. Having a “real” dessert once a week or a celebration meal would be a positive change. Always better to eat #RealFood instead of #UPF 🍪🍩🍦
The US FDA has gotten very busing as we approach the day when the new administration take over. Much of the rest of the world already requires Front of the Package (FOP) labels to alert consumers to food products high in #Salt #SatFat #AddedSugar. #FDAhealthy
Could take a decade or more …
Good review of reactions on the announcement yesterday. Seems like lots of stakeholders are displeased with the proposed FOP label from our FDA. #Fats #Salt #AddedSugar #FDAhealthy
Hard to know if any ordinary folks are paying much attention however.

Totally agree that excessive sugar consumption is a problem. I’m concerned however with the current FDA regulatory approach to labeling #AddedSugar because it’s so austere. Even more bothersome, the food industry is pushing novel & artificial substitutes for all Americans, not just diabetics.
The FDA has provided a metric on moderate Daily Values for those NTLs - #Salt #Fat #AddedSugar.
Desserts aren’t “healthy”. Are you okay with that? I actually am as long as we can distinguish between HIGH and MED. Enjoy a dessert is one of the pleasures of eating. #JoyOfEating
