I think I'd like to learn an #AfroAsiatic language. One with nonconcatentaive root-template morphology.
Probably #Hebrew. Because of my Jewish heritage.

What would be a good name for a subgroup of #Afroasiatic including Semitic, Egyptian, Berber/Amazigh, and "Cushitic" (Agaw, Beja, East and South Cushitic)?
Is there any possibility of reading #Egyptian 𓇋𓏏𓆑𓀀 'father' (jtj) as jft? I know about the idea that the 𓆑 f alone was kept in spelling from an older cognate of #Afroasiatic 'father' words with *b, but wondering about the whole spelling. Maybe connected to #Arabic yā-ʔabati 'O father'?
Another head-final-y thing in a normally VSO branch of #Afroasiatic: the #Berber relative forms like Ghadames t-əfal-ăt (3SG.F-leave\PFV-REL.F) 'who (f.) left' (example from @maartenkossmann.bsky.social 👇). Very similar to #Agaw, like Awngi des-t-u-t (study-3SG.F-PFV.REL-F) 'who (f.) studied'.
Great #Afroasiatic coverage. Was able to correctly identify all the Semitic pairs I tested, with some doubts about Amharic–Soqotri. Doesn't recognize a relationship between Semitic and Cushitic (Afar at least). Coptic–Akkadian gets flagged as possible, Coptic and younger Semitic langs: no match.
A pile of linguistics books.

Clubbing? Nah. I prefer an inebriated linguistics evening 🤓
