The #EdictOfExpulsion, aka the #AlhambraDecree, was signed by Isabella I of Castile & Ferdinand II of Aragon on #ThisDayInHistory in 1492. Violent persecution had already forced 2/3 of #Spain's Jews to convert. The remainder now had to leave penniless or join them in Catholicism.

The #SecondVaticanCouncil (aka #VaticanII) on #ThisDayInHistory in 1968 officially revoked the #AlhambraDecree of 1492. This order had expelled all remaining unconverted #Jews from #Spain & its colonies, so #conversos (the forcibly converted) couldn't practice #Judaism in secret.
