They had been separated in the chaos of battle, their talents needed in opposite sectors. A promise to return to one another once they were done with their respective tasks, made with only the quick yet longing, worried look in their eyes; the moment, the swallowed fear, the determination to make good on their promise set in their aether. ~•~ The front lines moved as the allied forces progressed forward; their rendezvous spot freed from the raging battle…but he never showed up. Maybe he wasn’t done yet. Maybe he was securing the line. She waited and waited, her anxiety rising as much as her impatience. She couldn’t wait any longer, so she began her search.
Thoughts raced in her head as the pounding of her footsteps fell on the war-ridden terrain; eyes searching in a panic as each sector she ran through showed no signs that he had ever stepped foot in them. By the Twelve, she should have never left his side; alas, the ever changing flow of battle forced their hand. ~•~ She stopped at an overlook to catch her breath and hoped the high vantage point would favorably assist her search; however, the vast emptiness in front of her discouraged her spirits more…but she was not about to end her search without finding him or figuring out what happened.
From atop the ridge, though difficult to perceive from such a distance, she spotted the faint glow of what she could assume was the Warrior of Light's axe; a glimmer of hope against the bleakest scenery. That was all she needed to revitalize her energy, giving her the push her weary body needed to close the distance between them. The crunch of gravel under her thundering footsteps only slowed as she approached; her racing heart dropped as her gaze fell upon him.
Motionless, like a mammet that had run out of power; he was almost doll-like with how still he was propped against the wreckage. There was blood spattered on his face, uncertain if it was his or from striking down an enemy. She knelt down, cradling his head in her hand, panicked eyes searching for any sign of life. ~•~ She held her breath...and then she saw it: his chest rise and fall. He was alive! Just barely, but he was alive. His breaths were shallow, hence his near mannequin-like state. Relief washed over her features, tears welling in her eyes. She applied some healing magick to better stabilize the Warrior of Light, then she picked him up, turned toward the main base and started walking.
