I make a lot jabs about life here in the late-Anthropocene…and then you see something like this and realize…it’s later than I thought.

Wait, what year is this?
Had someone just say they are challenged by giving a presentation to a screen instead of live faces in person!

The setting sun provides a warm glow upon a spruce tree covered in moss. Through the barren limbs the coastal hills and vegetation can be seen…and a calm ocean in the distance.
A warm winter’s eve
Along a calm Pacific shore
Spruce enveloped in moss
Protect their sap-filled core
Memories of the day
Still fill the heart with fondness
For a world warm and hospitable
With nary a hint of violence

In this episode of the Annals of the Anthropocene, we remember back to those heady days of AI…when much of the world’s inhabitants decided it was worth handing over all the content ever created to machines run by corporations…because it is so hard to write a letter.

An ephemeral stream passes through boulder/cobble strewn bed, beneath the shade of scattered ponderosa pines and a nearly cloudless blue sky. A series of mountain ridges lie on the distant horizon.
Under stunted ponderosas
A gentle stream passes
Boulders and cobbles strewn
By occasional heavy washes
A habitat uniquely suited
For all the local denizens
Highly adapted to serpentine
And a dearth of oxygenated hydrogens

Halcyon holocene days have lapsed
Like hours whiled away waiting
For a time to come that has already passed
Certainty a luxury of the past
Fate intertwined with a planet ailing
#Anthroposcenes #PoetryOfLostClimes
What shall be our fate
If waters no longer hospitable
Will species adapt too late
Will Earth still be inhabitable
If only there was a way
To turn the ship around
To act without delay and save
The planet to which we’re bound

A dark dead sea below a fiery sunset with dark storm clouds.
Seas ever rising
Thermal capacity reached
Northern latitudes more enticing
Oceanic circulation breached
Soylent futures certain
Verdant algal expanses thrive
Within an ill-tempered ocean
Harvested to keep humanity alive

Photo of the sun rising over north flank of Mt. Hood, with a sliver of a crescent moon at the top of a sky ranging from vivid orange on horizon to pale orange-blue at zenith. The sun and scant horizontal clouds highlight the start of a new day.
Looking for a little ray of light…

Blatant discrimination.
I’m here to tell you, we’re deep into it…

Anyone up for a little time travel?
