This "Talented Teezle" is called Holly Chestnut. She is so beautiful we had to photograph her from all angles. And she has a backstory!

Dear #Santa...

This touching 1917 letter to Father Christmas was written by 7-year-old Geoffrey Washington Trevelyan on #ChristmasEve at Rounton Grange. He asks Santa to decorate the tree & bring presents for the children blogs.ncl.ac.uk/speccoll/201...

The Angus Xmas Number ; a Pageant of the Year's Events in Pictures & Story : Herald Press, Arbroath : 1947: The very festive cover to the Christmas 1947 edition of "The Angus", the publication of the Arbroath Herald and Angus County Advertiser and that gives a picture of the year past. It was a difficult year for many, post-war austerity gripped Britain and the winter weather was harsh. But they were the first years of peace and there seems to have been hope of better times ahead, even of rationing easing as many of the commercial adverts hold out the hope that desired products would be available or more plentiful going forward. Much of the coverage is for the Tayside city of Dundee.

The cheery Santa Claus is by Colin Gibson (1907 - 1998) who was a noted local artist from Arbroath who won the Guthrie Award in 1943. He had started sketching and drawing cartoons for the publishers, the Arbroath Herald, whilst still at school. This is dominated by a very cheery Santa in a snowy woodland setting with the title above framed in green on white . The lower edge carries the words "A pageant of the year's events in pictures and story."

"Then there was a children's party [in Malaya], [the] highlight of which was the arrival of Father Christmas by air. 'He' was 'dropped' by parachute from an Auster aircraft behind some buildings and finished the last stage by Jeep." (RHAMPS Regimental Journal 1956) 🎅

Watch out! #Santa's on his way, cycling through the snow on his penny-farthing. Luckily Rudolph and the other reindeer are behind him to make sure he gets round the world on time…

It is Christmas Eve!!🎅

Behind today’s door, as an early present, we have four blocks showcasing the most prominent fixture of the York landscape, the Minster.

Those with keen eyes may notice a few familiar faces from previous tiles in the minster decorations.

#ArchiveAdventCalendar theme 24 is #Santa. Is this Santa, looking a lot like Robert Leighton from his portrait in Leighton Library? It was quite the gift to Dunblane which Robert Leighton left in his will - the creation of Dunblane’s historic Leighton Library - much more than a stocking filler!
