🌎 Western cattle egret (Ardea ibis) The western cattle egret is a small, white heron with a yellow bill and legs. Originally from parts of Eurasia and Africa, it has dramatically expanded its range globally. Breeding adults display orange-buff plumes. They thrive in grasslands and agricultural areas, often seen alongside livestock, feeding on insects disturbed by the animals. Their behavior includes colonial nesting and a diet primarily of insects, though they also consume other small animals. Estas garcillas bueyeras estaban ya descansando en su dormidero en la marisma de #Santoña cuando de repente una piragüa pasó demasiado cerca y provocó una desbandada masiva, por suerte volaron a una isleta cercana y se colocaron allí a pasar la noche.

Casi sin darnos cuenta, tras décadas de expansión en territorio y número, las garzas han entrado en un declive inesperado. Hemos de impedir que pasen a habitar tan solo el recuerdo las grandes pajareras de cría y los inmensos dormideros invernales.
