#asahilinux my mbp ate shit while updating and now I have to figure out ext4 on apple silicon if I want my files
More Asahi Debian Bananas (Trixie) woes: I have no idea how to get the microphone to work.
It doesn't let me record anything using audacity or anki. My goal is to record my coworkers speaking dutch for my dutch flash cards in anki, but while it lets me record in anki, there's no actual sound. I […]
#Fedora #Apple #MacPro #AsahiLinux #Linux
OK, the number one thing that is awful about Debian Bananas is the battery life of my macbook has gotten _awful_. I used to be able to last all day on macOS. Now I last a couple hours, tops :[

Screenshot of system monitor on debian bananas running kde plamsa. It shows that I have 10.9GiB/30.9GiB of memory in use, 348.9GB/1.6TB of disk in use, 5.1% of CPU in use. I'm running plasma version 6.3.6, qt version is 6.8.2, and KDE frameworks version is 6.13.0. The applications cpu and mem is as such: system monitor: 1.2% cpu and 183.2MB mem zen browser: 0.8% cpu and 3.9GB mem cinny: 0.2% cpu and 1.1GiB of mem The rest don't have any CPU registering, so I will only describe memory. discover: 155.8MiB Nextcloud: 106.9MiB calendar reminders: 57.9MiB KDE Connect: 36.1MiB Xwayland video bridge 33.3MiB Wezterm: 267.0MiB (I've blocked out my SSID, hostname, and IP address)
So here's the current operating metrics for using Debian Bananas (Trixie and KDE Plasma btw). Keep in mind I haven't compiled the mesa3D drivers or whatever yet, because I'm lazy, so that might help a bit too, but so far I'd say this is not something I'd […]

Its happening! Its finally installing Debian bananas! Its at 70.6% now. :heart_cyber:
BTW, I took the opportunity to take _everything_ off of icloud and move it to nextcloud. Very very happy about that :goblin_joy:
#debianBananas #asahiLinux
I'm utterly fascinated by #AsahiLinux and their efforts, but I'm a bit unfamiliar with their process. Like, is there a particular reason why they only support up to M2-class Apple silicon right now, or is it just that they gotta keep working to get support for later hardware going smoothly?
I'd […]
Going to try and install asahi (debian bananas flavor) this weekend on my old M1. Wish me luck!

Researching my next #Linux laptop and considering an M1 Macbook Air (16GB) for its great screen and built quality. How solid is #asahilinux running on that machine? Besides retina displays, I care a lot about smooth trackpad scrolling and solid support for multi-touch gestures. How are those […]
A screenshot of an Ubuntu Asahi Linux desktop with only a terminal open. One pane shows neofetch, another shows a busy cpu output using btop, and the third shows a compiler running, building Telegram.
After five years, this #Apple M1 MacBook Air is still a cracking little #Linux workstation.
I do hope the new MacBook #Neo gets the #AsahiLinux treatment at some point.
As a normal consumer the M2 #macbook air has to be the current best value for the money. You can find them for nearly the price of a #neo. The screen, cpu speed, and charging port are added value AND it can run #asahilinux which is priceless in my book. Same weight. Same size. No brainer for me.
Maybe #AsahiLinux would be an option without having to buy new hardware.
Does anybody have experience with it on a Macbook Pro 14" 2021?
I would love to switch to #Asahilinux on my MBP M1 Pro, but i really need Thunderbolt and USB-C Displays. Any chance the People behind Asahi will fix this soon? #Linux

I'm using a Macbook Pro M1 whenever I'm not at my main system - and of course I'm using #AsahLinux instead of macOS. I'm also sponsoring this project since I think it's quite critical that there's a well working aarch64 Linux platform available.
The latest progress report from the project is […]
Können wir nicht ein Crowdfunding starten um mitzuhelfen, @AsahiLinux auf M4 MacBookAirs zu bekommen?
Das wäre großartig!!

Looks like I'll be at #FOSDEM this year! I will probably arrive Friday evening and leave Sunday afternoon. Happy to meet and chat about #asahilinux or anything else.
I blame @vbabka, @ljs and @neal for luring me there :D
Debugging some #asahilinux USB issues with @janne and right now it looks like ATCPHY is even more cursed than we thought: At boot time, macOS powers up the usb2 PHY once, switches it to host mode and immediately shuts it down again even when no device is connected. I missed this so far but it […]
