Australian job ads steady in August, ANZ-Indeed data shows SYDNEY (Reuters) -Australian job advertisements were steady in August, highlighting a still resilient labour market amid lower interest rates, while a bounce in retail hiring was expected to persist into coming months. Data from Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and employment website Indeed on Monday showed the number of job ads inched up 0.1% in August from July, when they dropped by a upwardly revised 0.6%. Job ads in August were 1.9% higher than a year earlier, and remained 15.1% higher than pre-pandemic levels. "The ongoing resilience in Job Ads supports our view that the unemployment rate is likely to track broadly sideways," said Madeline Dunk, ANZ economist. "We expect just one more 25bp rate cut from the RBA in November." The Reserve Bank of Australia cut interest rates to 3.6% for a third time in August as inflation cooled and unemployment moved higher. However, fears of a downturn in the labour market have proved to be overblown as the latest data showed the jobless rate edged down from a 3-1/2 year high. "Both retail and food preparation & service opportunities also grew strongly, reflecting early Christmas hiring. Retail hiring will ramp up even further as we approach ‘Black Friday’ sales," said Pickering. 3rd party Ad. Not an offer or recommendation by Investing.com. See disclosure here or remove ads. The Coalition has a plan to lower Darwin airfares, but can it work? The Coalition has promised to allow overseas airlines to fly domestic routes between Darwin and the east coast if it wins government. But would that reduce prices?

All domestic flying should be conducted under Australian employment law—with fair conditions for Australian crews and a focus on long-term industry sustainability. Let’s keep Aussie skies fair.

Hey Mark,
Are you getting some weird vibes from our boys in blue? I just can’t shake the feeling that they’re upset with us, and me specifically. Maybe I overdid it when I asked them to call me ‘Captain’ but in my defence I was the CEO of a major airline.
I realise that my overestimation of their starting salary was a little embarrassing, but if it is that low then they must be pretty gratified that I’ve given up that $53k. That’s a lot of money for them.

Is it that they’re upset about potentially losing their rural housing support? We’re all making sacrifices when it comes to accommodation supplements, I’ve just had to cut back on my limo runs to twice a week. But really, how much could a rental in Benneydale really cost? $1000? Per week?
Ultimately, you need to remind them that we’re getting our books into synergy, working further not farther, and getting New Zealand back into a certain je ne sais quoi. And tell them to move to Queenstown, not Queensland.

Lift off!
