What makes this especially hard for unsupported, undiagnosed ND adults is that we were TRAUMATIZED by adults in our lives when we were kids. We don't want to rehash that for a diagnosis. The Venn diagram for adult #autistics & PTSDers is the entire circle of autistics inside the #PTSD circle.

Reading what us actually being proposed by the Govt re #SEND reform, is far what is needed. Support us still gatekept and deviation from an artificially defined norm is still ghettoised. Undiagnosed #autistics, for instance, will still be encouraged to mask and conform until the system breaks them.

Typically, I'm scanning these sorts of environments to see how others behave to get a sense of what's "appropriate" or saying no to a particular task or way of doing something (especially if it doesn't make sense. #autistics get it!) I'm continually stumped because it all seems so contradictory 3/🧵
We need to reframe how we view masking in MSN #autistics with trauma. Late Dx, high-masking folx are not really choosing to mask. In fact, our system had to choose to unmask.
It is an automatic, involuntary trauma response. Being #high-masking is deeply triggering bcuz it is a denial of core self.
