An adult Lesser Scaup Drake (male) in basic plumage. Note the blue bill, yellow eye and the lovely darker vermiculations on the wings.
An adult Lesser Scaup Hen (female) in basic plumage. All Scaups have a blue bill and yellow eye but unlike the more colourful male the female's head, wings and body feathers are all brown.
Yesterday in Confederation Park in NW #Calgary I photographed a pair of #Aythya (diving #ducks). By the female's markings you can tell these are Lesser #Scaups, commonly referred to as little bluebills. Enjoy! And have a terrific Tuesday everyone. #photography #wildlife #fowl #bird #nature

カモより小さいかな、という印象です。水鳥が泳いでいるのが見えたけれど、肉眼ではよくわからなくて、手持ちカメラの望遠で撮って、かろうじてこのくらい。頭が黒くて嘴が青、背中がグレーだからスズガモですね。
