Auckland’s old convention centre reborn as an experience destination When Meetings was held in Auckland in 2019 the farewell event was held at the Auckland Convention Centre, this was also the final event to be held in this venue as the replacement NZICC was due to open in early 2020. The new NZICC will finally open next year (following rebuilding due to fire during construction) and will be connected to the old convention centre building that now hosts The All Blacks and Wētā interactive experiences.

BEIA’s Lisa Hopkins appointed to PCMA Regional Advisory Board Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) Chief Executive, Lisa Hopkins has been appointed to the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) APAC Regional Advisory Board (RAB) for a two-year term. Hopkins is the only member of the 12-strong team representing a country. She joins three other new appointees to the PCMA APAC Board for 2025-2027: Mala Dorasamy, CEO, Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre; Philip Goh, head – global experience marketing, Ciena; and Will Kataria, country head and senior director, Cvent.

New Zealand’s business events industry welcomes funding boost New funding to attract international business events is excellent news for the sector and for the country, Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) says. New Zealand’s business events industry body, BEIA says today’s announcement the Government is investing an additional $3 million from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy will bring valuable international conference and incentive business to the country. The additional activity aims to secure business events for New Zealand that will deliver more than $30 million in incremental spend to the economy.
