It was fun to chat to folks about my work on the #RACC project which seeks to better understand interactions and controls on pollutant dispersal associated with historic coastal landfills in the UK at #BSG25
Had a fantastic few days at #BSG25 in my old stomping ground of Leeds. Always fun meeting new people and catching up with friends! I am grateful to have had the opportunity to share some of my PhD work and receive valuable feedback and advice for the final sprint of my PhD.
A great few days at #BSG25 where I got the chance to showcase my @leverhulme.ac.uk funded work on oxbow lakes - hopefully out in publication form soon.
That’s a wrap for #BSG25 @universityofleeds.bsky.social. Thanks to Jonathan, Mark and the wider organising team for a fantastic week covering a wide range of geomorphic processes. Thanks also to Wiley and ESPL, it was a pleasure to celebrate 50 years. See you all next year in Lincoln!
The final session of #BSG25 focused on rivers 🌧️ including beaver restoration, oxbow lake geomorphology, the impacts of rewilding and controls on river flow sensitivity!
For our final morning in Leeds, we had two sessions covering a wide range of geomorphology from dryland channels to glacial landforms and the interestingly named murdlins to coseismic landslide prediction and mapping and the potential to use sonic geomorphology for ecosystems ☀️❄️🌧️🏔️ #BSG25
Celebrating the Gordon Warwick award by Prof @lisamol.bsky.social this morning. Very inspiring to see Lisa’s research on heritage geomorphology in conflict zones, highlighting her outreach initiatives and the importance of partner organisations #BSG25
Starting this afternoon with Linton Award winner, Prof Dave Thomas (@oxfordgeography.bsky.social), a fantastic summary of the evolution of dryland aeolian research over the last 50 years from hand mapping to AI. A talk filled with dunes, dating and fieldwork. Thanks Dave. #BSG25
Two excellent talks from Marjorie Sweeting award winner, Sophie Snowball (Newcastle), and runner up Adam Wright (Sussex) on the role of geomorphology in historic landfill waste and coastal pollution in the north east and glaciofluvial geomorphology on Mars. #BSG25
Excellent Michael Kirkby award talk given by Wren Raming to kick off the second day of #BSG25. Wren showed how rock strength, drainage area and flood size control waterfall stability on the Hawaiian Islands. You can read Wren’s paper here:

Great day at #BSG25 in Leeds, with award of 2 @bsg-geomorph.bsky.social Fellowships (Carling & Newson) and lifetime awards for Mike Kirkby, Fiona Kirkby & Stuart Lane in ESPL’s 50th anniversary year. And of course outstanding science from NZ to Swaledale via some poetic potholes. More today!
🌟 Wednesday highlights #BSG25 🌟
- Three award lectures!
- Poster session and lightening talks
- Cuchlaine King Symposium
- Conference dinner
Thrilled to announce that Mike Kirkby, Fiona Kirkby and Stuart Lane have all been awarded Honorary Life Membership of the BSG during yesterday’s Frost Reception. We also welcomed Paul Carling and Malcolm Newson as new Fellows of the BSG. Congratulations all! #BSG25
A series of fascinating talks on fluvial geomorphology in the UK to wrap up today’s presentations! From potholes and outreach, reconstructing palaeofloods in York to future possibilities for fluvial research with advances in technology. Lots of exciting research being done and left to do! #BSG25
Thanks to all our speakers for an excellent first session featuring fluvial systems from the lab scale and North Pennines all the way to New Zealand and large scale remote sensing. A great showcase of river networks incl. erosive bedrock systems and widespread aggradation from cyclones. 🌊💦 #BSG25
Kicking off the first session is Dick Chorley Award Winner, Sophie Horton. Sophie presented her 2022 paper on shore platform wetting and drying cycles following the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake (link ⬇️) as well as more recent work on rock characteristics and the role of small, frequent storms. #BSG25
After a morning filled with fantastic workshops, Jonathan Carrivick has welcomed everyone to Leeds and #BSG25. Also great to hear from Stuart Lane on the 50th anniversary of ESPL and how you can get involved (to be posted soon!) Great to see many issues of ESPL around the conference venue 🌎
It's that time of year again, time for the annual @bsg-geomorph.bsky.social conference. A nice easy travel across from Hull this morning, but still an early start #BSG25
Excited to be on my way to #BSG25 in Leeds, leaving beautiful Liverpool where civil flags are flown from civic flagpoles with civility.
