π African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) The African penguin, also known as Cape penguin or South African penguin, is a medium-sized, flightless, aquatic bird with a distinctive black and white plumage. They have a black back and white belly, with a black band across their chest and unique pink patches above their eyes. African penguins are found only in the waters of southern Africa, living in large colonies on the coast and nearby islands. They are excellent swimmers, using their flipper-like wings to propel themselves through the water while hunting for fish and squid. On land, they waddle upright and can be quite clumsy. They are known for their loud, donkey-like braying calls. Conservation status: Critically Endangered (IUCN 3.1) π·: Photo by Lifetravellerz via Pixabay JQRH
