🌍 Bateleur (Terathopius ecaudatus) The Bateleur is a striking, medium-sized eagle with a distinctive, very short tail, long pointed wings, and vibrant red facial skin and legs. Adults are predominantly black with a chestnut back and tail, and grey shoulders. Females have more grey on their secondary flight feathers. Juveniles are all brown with bluish facial skin, maturing over 7-8 years. Found across Sub-Saharan Africa and possibly the extreme southern region of the Arabian Peninsula, Bateleurs inhabit open savanna and woodland. They are largely solitary or in pairs, territorial, and spend much of the day in acrobatic, low-altitude gliding flight, rocking side-to-side.
