While “The Few” often conjures images of fighter pilots duelling in the skies, another brotherhood fought a darker, deadlier battle—by night, deep over enemy territory. Bomber Command struck at the heart of the invasion threat, braving flak, fire, and impossible odds. Among them, an 18-year-old hero, John Hannah VC, fought flames with his bare hands to save his crew. Today in 1940, Rogers Miller takes #SpitfireR6915 into battle over the Isle of Wight with No.609 Squadron RAF. In a swirling dogfight involving a formation of at least 80 Messerschmitt 110s, 609 Squadron pilots account for four 110s and three 109s without loss.
