Wanted to make the little men stand out using a zipatone effect. The Procreate halftone didn’t have the right look. I pulled a BenDay stipple file I made years back. So far, it’s as close to zipatone as I‘ve gotten.
Work will continue on the process.

There are #comicbookdots, then there are #BenDaydots. They are not the same. BenDay came the late 19th c. Comicbook dots are from the early 20th c. BenDay was more versatile but required special skills where comicbook dots just required dexterity with knives and scissors. This 1 from my postcards.

After creating #cymk dots in photoshop, I moved onto attempted the same with actual #BenDaydots. It was now quite a simple. There's no set of colors to work with. Every image could be any number of random colors and patterns.
Here's a closeup on one of my test pieces. Not as simple as comicbook dots

"Break" collage made entirely from LIFE magazine images (I think).
This is mounted on a masonite tray that has a cork back.
I love the way color looks from this era - the newsprint and ben-day dots.
Such saturation!
