Gladiators, Graffiti, and Martyrs A newly studied gladiator graffito from a Pompeii theater corridor illuminates the Roman culture of spectacle informing Paul’s letters and early Christian martyrdom accounts.

A gladiator graffito at Pompeii captures how ordinary spectators remembered the arena’s drama. Such imagery reflects the wider Roman spectacle culture that shaped the New Testament world, echoed in writings by Paul and later martyr traditions.

Who was Machir in the Hebrew Bible? In Judges 5, Machir appears as a leading group. Yet elsewhere it’s a clan of Manasseh. This puzzle may preserve memory of an early Iron Age tribe in Gilead later absorbed into Israel’s tribal system.

Archaeologists have discovered a 1,000-year-old cross that could rewrite the history of early Christianity A volunteer has discovered a 1,000-year-old bronze cross in Brandenburg. The find suggests an earlier Christian presence in the region.

A medieval bronze cross pendant found in Brandenburg matches the 10th-century Spandau Cross casting mold, proving local production and signaling an earlier Christian presence in the region than once thought.
