A heavily built all black bird with a thick beak that is pale towards the base and darkens towards the tip. It's perched on a wooden fence rail facing the camera but looking to the right. Its legs and some feathers seem to be covered in sand.

1/2 Kestrel - Peak Hunting Effort
Coming down the track to the cottage just now there was a Kestrel hunting with huge intensity. It was focussed on the narrow hedge/field margin, looking for a vole or mouse in that niche where fallen fruit/seeds are more abundant.

Det samme gjelder #Tårnugla som ikke har hekket i Sverige på mer en 20 år. I Norge er situasjonen også alvorlig. Snøugla er kritisk truet med en anslått bestand på bare rundt 45 individer - og enkelte år kan det være ingen hekking i det hele tatt.

The cliffs at Bempton were alive with nesting birds making a cacophony of sound that sometimes made it hard to think, but above the rose loud gull sounds, 3 birds fighting then something falling. The blue egg fell, pointy end first, looking like a tiny hot air balloon as the gulls wheeled round into a dive to try and retrieve it. I couldn't see if they succeeded or if it smashed on the waves below. Photo shows 3 gulls, one, sideways-on, braking in mid air, the other 2 flying away from the camera the adult gull just heading into a dive. In the right lower corner is a falling egg. Auk eggs can be very varied in colour and although Guillemot eggs are more likely to be blue than Razorbill eggs the shape is more in keeping with a Razorbill (chunkier) than a Guillemot (more slender)
