Resting on a tree above the water, a female Wood Duck lets out a quiet yawn or is it a smile?

The image captures a close-up view of a male Common Goldeneye duck perched on a dark, rough-textured log that occupies the lower portion of the frame. The duck is facing to the left, with its head turned slightly towards the viewer. Its most striking feature is its iridescent emerald green head, which gleams in the light, contrasting with the white patch just below its beak and its bright, alert yellow eye.

Emerald head, golden eye… and one perfect white cheek.  ❤️ A Common Goldeneye glowing in the soft light at Lost Lagoon.

The image features a song sparrow perched amidst verdant foliage. The bird, positioned slightly off-center, is facing away and looking left, exhibiting a mix of brown and white hues in its plumage. Its head is predominantly brown with speckled patterns, while its body displays brown streaks against a white background. The sparrow's beak is a soft grayish-blue, and its eye is dark and alert. The bird is perched on a small branch which is surrounded by thick, glossy green leaves.

And today we see the incredibly rare twin-tailed eagle making its appearance. As always with rare birds, fuzzy photos only (that’s my excuse anyway)

Image: A paddling mallard duck ripples the reflection of trees and clouds and a small portion of blue sky. The duck is heading from upper right to lower left across the image. As the picture is not a close-up of the duck, it only takes up a very small portion of the image. A broken reed has been caught by its forward motion and has been bent to either side of the bird like a rounded letter V. The reflected trees, which take up most of the picture are deciduous and have orange-brown fall foliage.

Image: A Cedar Waxwing is perched facing the camera on a thin branch of a tree laden with small round red berries. It is perched with its tail down and its breast is entirely visible. The bird's head is turned to the left of the picture and it has a berry it had just plucked in its opened beak.
