The Birnam Oak. The two images both show the oak without leaves. It has a thick central trunk and spreads to cover a large area. Some of the lower branches are supported on thick pillars of wood. The difference between the two images is that one has the sun behind the photographer so shows the oak in full light, with the river glimpsed beyond it. The other is looking into the sun, so the tree is silhouetted and there is a hedge in the background with houses beyond it.

The Birnam Oak, close to the south bank of the River Tay at Birnam in Perthshire. The tree is said to have helped inspire Shakespeare's "Macbeth" after a visit by the playwright in 1589. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

A group of Scottish Blue Badge Tourist Guides standing next to the Parent Larch near Dunkeld Cathedral. Planted in 1738 and used by the Planting Dukes of Atholl to raise and plant 20m trees over 15000 acres between 1760-1830. The cradle of Scottish forestry.
That's another 14 #stgaguides through cpd on Scotland's forest history. That makes 97 total, and £950 to #TreeAid. Great interaction. A nod to @dendrochronicle.bsky.social for keeping me right on medieval timber use. #Dunkeld #Birnam #Macbeth
