11th bday, 1976. With my longtime childhood best friend Lisa, and her little brother, Jeff. (Guest appearance by my Holly Hobbie and Heather.) This dress was one of my all-time favorite birthday dresses (white with delicate little blue floral bouquets), and was my 1st dress from the adult section. (Kids dresses had become too short for my long legs.)
12th bday, 1977. My most memorable birthday, the infamous Blackout of '77. It started the night before, just after I went into bed, as my mom was baking my cake in the kitchen. We all ended up being up most of the night listening to the radio, too hot to sleep without the fans. The next day my double-layer cake slid apart in the heat. My day at the Bronx Zoo and the family party with Lisa & Jeff were all postponed for a few days, until we felt it was safe for them to walk the 4 blocks between our houses or go up to the Bronx. You can sort of tell this photo is just flash and daylight, no overhead electricity.
