It has to be one of the most photogenic of English castles, but then it was clearly designed more for show than defence.

Bodiam Castle was dismantled in the English Civil war and fell out of use at that point.
Now I’ve been, I suspect I’ll go again. I may also fail to resist posting more photos in due course.

Towards the end of Wednesday afternoon, I managed to cross Bodiam Castle off my to do list. Amazingly, at the time of my visit, no-one else was looking around the castle.
Begun in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, it was clearly constructed as much for show as for defence.

Before reopening as part of the Kent and East Sussex heritage line this Sussex station was almost preserved in aspic waiting for the trains to return. Plans are now to continue westwards from here to Robertsbridge and the Network.
