#BookOfGoodTimes making me feel like an inadequate human again, although I suspect that is less the book's fault and more an inherent flaw inside me

My dubious "in total darkness turtle" in the #bookofgoodtimes thanks to @hankgreen.bsky.social I'm enjoying the book. I greatly appreciate the range of activities and find them very thought-provoking!!

Five yrs ago I started teaching English (to adults whose 1st language is not Engl). This has opened my ears to many things, including the fact that there are three distinct ways we pronounce -ed endings. Had never noticed!

What else am I not noticing?

A notebook open on a double page spread of a black and white fantasy map. The prompt Please name all places on this map is printed on the top left. 6 fantasy locales have been named in blue handwriting. Lunar Orrery. Ruins of Duskgate. Haven. Towers of Dawn. The Citadel. The Great Maw.

This page fell well within my niche. #BookOfGoodTimes

a spread of pages of the book of good times. the left page says “let’s take a break from all this thinking…on this page, draw circles by hand until either: 1. there remains no uninked centimeter left on the page, or 2. you draw a perfect circle.” surrounding the text is a page full of hand drawn circles of various sizes. on the right page, there is one, large, clearly traced ink circle surrounded by the words “no such thing as perfect.”

Picture of a writing prompt in “the book of good times” by Hank Green. The prompt is “tell me the most interesting thing about humans”. The response is in purple ink as follows. “I think accents are pretty damn I interesting.language and how it evolves in general. 400 years ago in Shakespeare’s day, words were pronounced differently than they do today, and now some couplets don’t rhyme because the way English sits in our mouths has changed. Or sign language! BASL (Black American Sign Language) is significantly different than French Sign or French Sign. Signing was brought to America in the 1800’s (?) and has evolved into so many different languages since then. Or the Antarctic accent. A bunch of researchers from around the world worked in Arctic isolation for like two heard, and dialecticians (idk if that’s a word) documented how they spoke before and after their time away. They all minority spoke differently! All their accents slowly started forming together, and the dialect scientists said if they stayed isolated for fifty years or something they would talk with with tgr world’s first Antarctic Accent. How cool is that? Fascinating.

Journal prompt: Dark turtle. Go to the darkest place you can find. Turn off all the lights, take me with you. While we’re there, draw a turtle. I hope it’s bad!
Drawing: A poorly drawn turtle.

#BookOfGoodTimes asked me to post a picture of a completed page. On page 44 it asked me to write the lyrics to a song I know by heart, so here is The Travelers by #BrotherAli. Well, the first verse at least... That's all I could fit.
