Braddock contains the fist Andrew Carnegie Public Library in the US. Opened in 1889, eventually there would be over 1,680 libraries built. The library had a bathhouse for millworkers so they could clean up there before entering the facilities.

AM radio station WLOA was licensed to Matta Broadcasting in February 1958. Studios were located at 1233 Braddock Avenue in Braddock, with the station signing on as WLOA-FM on June 1, 1959. Transmitter facilities were located on a hill just northeast of Braddock.
