As well as this freshwater snail resident in the Brandon Staunch Eel Ladder, around the lock are some superb freshwater sponges with eerie green fingers waving in the current.

Disappointing swim in Little Ouse (16.7°C) at Brandon Staunch 0.5km up & 0.5 km down stream with deteriorated visibility since 2 weeks ago. Worst was up - saw nothing but Minnows & Dabchick; underwater was like Miss Havisham's house - draped in algae. #MySwim #Brecks #BrandonLock
