Stunning grayscale image of Comet McNaught's ion tail captured by the SECCHI instrument aboard the STEREO satellite. The comet's tail, extending at least seven degrees, is dramatically swept back by the solar wind, showcasing filamentary rays. The bright coma is oversaturated in the image. This is a remarkable view of the brightest comet in recent decades.
