A large stainless steel bowl with finely chopped onions, celery, carrots. A large bamboo spoon sits inside the bowl. The bowl is sitting on a flagrantly green bench, for which I apologise.

The celery experiment has moved on a step. One of the heads of celery has grown enough roots for it to be potted up. Fingers crossed that it will respond positively now it's in compost rather than plain water.

Put 100ml of bonito broth, 100ml of rice vinegar, 1 tbsp. of soy sauce, 1 tsp. of sugar in a pot and boil it briefly.
