In closing remarks at #CITESCoP20, CoP Alternate Chair Alisher Salomov (Uzbekistan) lauded this meeting as marking a “historic moment for Uzbekistan and Central Asia.” Reminding everyone in plenary that “nature transcends borders,” he gaveled CoP20 to a close at 11:47 a.m.
In closing remarks at #CITESCoP20, Secretary-General Yvonne Higuero thanked Uzbekistan for its hospitality and called for carrying forward the spirit of Samarkand—one of cooperation, respectful dialogue, & shared responsibility—in order to “translate the momentum built here into meaningful action.”
At #CITESCoP20, Committee I Chair Mathias Lörtscher (Switzerland) received a standing ovation on "the last working day of his life," with delegates thanking him in plenary for his dedication and service to CITES over decades through chairing several different committees.

At #CITESCoP20, Panama offered to host the next Conference of the Parties to the Convention, #CITESCoP21, in 2028. Delegates enthusiastically applauded the idea of returning to the country that so graciously hosted CoP19 in 2022.

At #CITESCoP20, the proposal to list guggul (Commiphora wightii) in Appendix II was reopened, w/ an annotation to exclude finished products ready for retail trade.
By secret ballot, the CoP adopted the amended proposal, w/ 79 in favour, 39 against, & 15 abstaining.

At #CITESCoP20, the proposal to list the rose-hair #tarantula (Grammostola rosea) and 14 lookalikes in Appendix II—which Committee I had rejected—was reopened, only with an amendment to include *only* Grammostola rosea.
The CoP adopted the amended proposal.

At #CITESCoP20, the proposal to list 6 #seacucumber species in Appendix II—which was rejected in Committee I—was reopened, only amended to delay entry into effect by 24 months. The CoP voted to once again reject it, with 59 for, 72 against, & 8 abstaining.

At #CITESCoP20, in the afternoon plenary, delegates voted not to reopen discussions on the contentious "look-alike" criteria for amending Appendices I and II, with 27 in favor, 98 opposing, and 17 abstaining.
