Ballynahinch were first on the scoreboard with a penalty from Justin Rea for a 0 - 3 lead. CIYMS tied the game if minutes late as a penalty from Ewan Nelson took the score to 3 - 3.

Provincial East: CIYMS 2XV 50 Larne 2XV 34 On Saturday afternoon, Holywood RFC was the venue for the Provincial East League clash between CIYMS 2XV and Larne 2XV. CI’s Belmont grounds were being prepared for cricket. As CI had already been crowned league champions and Larne were safe in 2nd place the scene was set for a fast flowing, end to end, game of open rugby in front of some very partisan supporters!

Club Rugby: Academy Host U16 Club School Blitz. I caught up with the School/Club Window U16 Blitz at Academy RFC, Roughfort, early Saturday morning. The competition featured Teams from Academy (2), Ards, Belfast Harlequins, BHSFP, CIYMS, Lisburn and Randalstown which was broken down into 2 pools of four teams for the pool round robin stage. There was a final playoff round where 1A played 1B, 2A played 2B etc.

Championship 2: CIYMS 17 Carrickfergus 15 This top of the table clash at Belmont had a winner takes all vibe as CIYMS battled their main rivals Carrick for pole position in Championship 2 on Tuesday evening. CI had the better start, rush defence and thumping tackles, especially from CI centre Jason Gilliland, rattled Carrick in possession and CI took full advantage getting ahead after 12 mins with a penalty sent between the sticks by Jack Bonnar.

Championship 2: Academy 6 CIYMS 14 We caught up with the Championship 2 match between Academy and CIYMS at Roughfort on Saturday afternoon. This was an entertaining game between two sides who know each other well. Despite CI looking for a win to stay top of Championship 2 and Academy looking for the win to avoid slipping into the relegation dogfight there was not a lot between the two teams on the day.

Championship 2: CIYMS 38 Coleraine 0 We caught up with the Championship 2 clash between CIYMS and Coleraine at Belmont on Saturday afternoon. At a very frosty Belmont, CIYMS hosted Coleraine in their first match of the New Year and it was the home team who came out with all guns blazing. Paddy Beverland opened the scoring for CI. Midway through the first half, it was scrum half Paddy Beverland who drove across to open the scoring with No 10, Jack Bonner adding the conversion.
