The California Tortoiseshell butterfly-Nymphalis californica-has bright rust-brown wings bordered with chocolate markings on all four wings. The wingspan is approximately 2 inches. The butterfly has a fuzzy body and gray antennae with silvery tips. This butterfly is perched on pink cone shaped Andromeda blossoms. The background of this photo is bright, green, turquoise, magenta, and a hint of gold.
