After 11 years of campaigning, Daniel Johnsons members bill The Restraint and Seclusion in Schools (Scotland) Bill 2025, known as Calums Law will face the final debate and vote from MSPs.
I am nervous but hopeful that Scotlands lawmakers will do the right thing.

Tomorrow MSPs will take part in the Stage 3 debate and final vote for #CalumsLaw The Restraint and Seclusion in Schools bill will protect and uphold the human rights of children in education.
We would like to see it extended to all children in all settings.

#calumslaw. We use restraint and seclusion on disabled and children with ASN without mandatory training, robust recording or even telling parents/carers. Non disabled children no corporal punishment. Follow @bethmorrison.bsky.social for updates.
Viv, Deirdre, and I were grateful for an opportunity for a follow-up stakeholders meeting with DFE in Westminster.
We felt heard and respected as the parents of those children with lived experience.

We are deeply horrified and outraged by this appalling treatment of a vulnerable child.
This incident highlights the need for #CalumsLaw.
To the family affected, we stand with you. To those in power, we demand change.
It totally goes against UNCRC, so it should be against the law.
This photo was taken last week, 4 months after new non statutory guidelines on restraint and seclusion, and 6 months after incorporation of UNCRC.
#CalumsLaw is absolutely needed.
A 7yr old Autistic child shut alone in a room at school.
He was given paper towels and told to clean up after himself after he urinated and defecated in there.
They gave him a plastic carrier bag for the paper.
There's also a video that is too distressing to share.

Of course they are. They don't want to have to keep records because it keeps everyone including families in the dark.
This is why #CalumsLaw is asking for mandatory recording and reporting.
If they don't HAVE to do it, they won't do it.
It's really poor.
The BBC documentary about Skye House was one of the most harrowing things I have ever seen 😭
The programme showed that mental health settings are often traumatising and restraint and seclusion is used there too.
This is why we need #CalumsLaw for ALL Children in ALL Settings
