🌄 Riding Mountain National Park – Sunset Split by Light and Shadow
During a recent camping trip at Riding Mountain National Park, I witnessed and captured one of the most surreal sunset moments I’ve ever experienced.
Using my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with the Canon EF 24–105mm f/4L IS USM lens, paired with an ND filter and polarizer (CPL), I was able to perfectly balance the exposure for this dramatic long-exposure image.
As the sun began to set, a large cloud drifted directly in front of it. That single cloud acted like a natural filter, partially blocking the sunlight—resulting in powerful sun streaks that radiated across the sky. The contrast was incredible: one half of the sky plunged into a moody darkness, while the other half burst into vibrant hues of orange, gold, and soft pinks—a true golden hour masterpiece.
The result was an emotionally striking photograph—featuring dramatic lighting, long beach reflections, and richly colored sky textures that could only be described as nature painting with light.
