Native to southeastern South America (Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina), it has also been introduced to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. They are often found in semi-open areas, including parks and degraded forests, and forage on the ground in pairs or small groups, feeding on seeds, fruits, and insects.
