During my visit to HC-One’s Perry Locks Care Home, I spoke with Anna & Patience about how we can better support care homes. Their dedication is inspiring.
This #CareHomeOpenWeek, see their incredible work firsthand, reach out to your local home if they’re open!
Myth: I’ll never need a care home.
Truth: None of us can predict the future. It’s wise to talk openly with loved ones early, so you're prepared—just in case. Planning brings peace of mind.

This #CareHomeOpenWeek and #GladtoCare Week, in Parliament I thanked the brilliant teams at Muscliff Care Home, Highview Residential Home, and every care home across Bournemouth East.
Thank you for being there for our loved ones. You make an enormous difference, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. ❤️
This week I visited both Drummohr and Springfield Bank Care Homes to mark #CareHomeOpenWeek
The warmth and positivity throughout both homes was truly uplifting.
I want to thank the staff for accommodating me and for their compassion and commitment – they are a credit to our community
Myth: Care home residents just watch TV & play bingo.
Truth: People choose how they spend their days—exercise, crafts, games, even housework! Some prefer to be alone, reading or watching favourite soaps. It’s all about personal choice & meaningful activity.

Myth: Care homes only play war songs.
Truth: Enough with this one already! Music in care homes is as diverse as the people—think Abba, Dolly Parton, Rat Pack, Iron Maiden and more! It’s all about what brings joy to each individual resident.

A relative needed to be heard this week, needed to give voice to their overwhelming sense of grief. I was late home that night. It didn't matter to me but it mattered so much to that person, who left a little lighter. We're there for everyone.

I was pleased to pop in to Wessex House care home in #Somerton on Sunday ahead of #CareHomeOpenWeek to say hello to staff & residents. Wonderful to see such a well-run facility, and the dedication and kindness of the whole team. Do pop along to their open day on the 26th of July if you're able to.
1/3 This week is #CareHomeOpenWeek, where care homes open their doors to their local community to show how care home residents live and the kind of activities they do every day.
