#Philadelphia eliminated #cashbail for lowlevel offenses in 2018. Crime is now reaching historic lows: fewest murders since 1969, 14% decrease in homicides & a 22% decrease in shootings. #Chicago & #WashingtonDC, both cities are also experiencing significant decreases in crime.

#NewOrleans spent $6M in 2015 to hold in jail people who could not pay bail. In 2017 it ended #cashbail for most offenses tried in the city’s municipal courts. It has also experienced similar declines in the last few years, with some offenses dropping well below pre-pandemic levels.

#SanFrancisco has markedly decreased its #cashbail: robberies down 21.8%/homcides down 31.4%/property crime down 31% from 2024 & 46% from prepandemic levels. The trend has held in 2025 & murders are the fewest since 1960
